![]() ![]() That being said, it is clearly lacking a coat of polish. It’s really impressive that they were able to get the graphics to look this good considering all the circumstances during development. The character models and animations are top notch, the levels are surprisingly varied, the visual effects are particularly stunning and it all runs a crisp 60 fps. ![]() 5/10 Graphics & Soundįor a game that was made with so little money, Ghost Rider is a really impressive looking game. It clearly wants to be more but given the budget, it can only go so far. There is lots of a fanservice here for sure but it’s not what I would call meaningful. Caretaker also makes an appearance but that’s a little strange considering he disappeared by the end of the movie and we even get an appearance from the Vampire Hunter Blade which is kind of cool. Ghost Rider is his usual badass and there are some funny moments with him that make sense, like using his flaming skull to light a stick of dynamite. It’s a shame the game doesn’t have a chance to really explore these characters or what they can do. I was especially excited to see Blackout in the game since he was always my favorite Ghost RIder villain. ![]() So in addition to Blackheart, you’ll also face off with Lilith, Blackout, Scarecrow and Vengence which is pretty cool. Like in most comic book movie tie in games, the game pads out the experience by including several villains from Ghost Rider’s rogue’s gallery. It’s a shame too because this is a decent Ghost RIder plot. THere are no story beats in gameplay itself so as a result, the story comes off more as context than anything. As such, the story is mostly told through these comic book style cutscenes that only show up once every three or so levels. Johnny of course refuses but when he is told that Roxanne may be in danger, he agrees and sets off to bring the Demon’s back to hell.Ĭlimax had big plans for the plot of Ghost RIder but with the limited budget, they had to cut back on it. ![]() A group of them have formed an alliance in order to revive Blackheart so that he may continue his quest to bring hell on Earth. The game takes place after the movie and sees Johnny Blaze AKA Ghost RIder, summoned to hell by the devil to inform him that Blackheart was not the only demon to escape from hell when he did. And I gotta say guys, this game is way better than I would have ever expected. So when I found it at a game store, I decided to give it a try. The game would fade into obscurity but it has been one I’ve been aware of for a while. The game could have done well on the PS2 but there was so little money left over for marketing at the end of the day that no one even knew this thing existed. Most Sony fans wouldn’t have made the jump to PS3 yet either due to how expensive the thing was. Developers continued to make games for the thing clear in to 2014. That might sound stupid but people forget how long the PS2 lasted. This was 2007 so the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, as well as the DS were the hot new thing but given their limited budget and the high production cost of HD gaming, the studio opted to limit the game to the PS2 with a port for the PSP and a handheld version of the GBA. Needless to say, Climax had to cut back big time on the game’s scope. THankfully when they pitched their idea to the studio, who liked and accepted the idea….but gave them a pathetic budget and less than a year to make the game. THe higher ups at the studio were also big fans of Ghost RIder so when they heard they were making a movie based on the Brimstone Biker, they immediately lobbied to get the video game rights only to find they weren’t actually there. At the time, they were a developer of little fame and they were looking to produce a superhero game after seeing the acclaim Radical Entertainment earned working on The Hulk games. The only reason one came about at all was because of Climax Games. One thing that wasn’t on the agenda for the series however was a video game adaptation. There is a reason the film would go on to become a box office smash despite its questionable quality. They marketed the hell out of, there was a ton of merchandise and there were even toys based on it. Though it is common today to refer to the first Ghost RIder movie as s***, people forget what a big movie it was. ![]()
